NACHR News~ DNA requirements for 2012
DNA typing is through U of KY for ICHO
ICHO has always used the University of Kentucky for our DNA parentage testing but we have also accepted DNA reports from other labs as well to keep "on file". Meaning we have the report in the horses file but it is not in the U of KY database that ICHO uses. To be able to do parentage testing for a registry, all DNA results must be recorded in the one lab database used for that registry. In 2012 all DNA accepted by ICHO must be also entered into the U of KY database. We will now offer all DNA parentage testing through U of KY only and it is automatically entered in their database. If you have DNA reports from other labs, they will also be accepted but will have a $10.00 recording fee required and also require the owner to enter their data on a form and submit it by email along with a copy of the lab report to the office. This ensures that all DNA accepted by ICHO is in one database for all future parentage testing.
2012 DNA Breeding Stallion requirements~ DNA typing is required of all active breeding ICHO/NACHR stallions used in 2012 breeding year and all future years and is due in ICHO office when stallion reports are filed by Feb 15, starting in 2013 and all future years. This will keep all DNA typing of breeding stallions in the U of KY database for all future parentage testing needs.

Who's your Ancestral Daddy??
Curly Genealogy Research Project
Have you ever wondered where Curlies really came from? Have you ever wondered who's DNA is hiding in your Curlies genes? If you answered yes, you can now get your Curly ancestral DNA typed and find out who is in their genetic backgrounds. Dr Gus Cothran of TX A&M is doing ancestral DNA on BLM horses including BLM Curlies and now all Curlies thru ICHO can be ancestral DNA tested. Dr Cothran has a huge database of DNA breed information from his years of genetic work and can find the most common breed ancestors in your Curlies DNA including modern and old world breed types. We are hoping with more Curlies of all backgrounds being tested we can compare results to find the common denominator of who our Curlies really are genetically and where they may have come from originally. Since we know little about the first Curlies found in North America, this is a way to document their ancestral genetics since all our Curlies carry their early DNA. To take part, fill out the form below and you can pay thru our payment online link or the one below. Cost is $25.
To read more about this project go to our Research pages here. The results are coming in! Read the results and look at the photo study of Domestic and BLM Curlies we have so far here- Ancestral DNA Results page. More results coming in!
Ancestral DNA testing TX A&M $25.00 Use the form below.
If you want your test results DNA markers entered in the U of KY Lab database for parentage DNA there is an additional $10.00 recording fee in 2012 for all other labs that are not U of KY. Contact the office for details.

Research news about CA cerebella abiotrophy in Arabian horses and how it affects breeds that carry Arabian Ancestry including the Curly- Curly Breeders please read: http://ichopage.weebly.com/ca.html *ICHO is now offering reduced priced CA testing for ICHO Members, go to the webpage above
for more information. ICHO is advising that all Arabian heritage Curlies be CA tested before breeding.
HAIR Samples- We are requesting that all owners keep a hair sample from their horses for archiving important DNA material. If you have a horse or foal die, please pull hairs with root bulbs right away for archiving. This can be so very helpful when needing to do tests on horses that are deceased. You may also send samples to ICHO to store on any of your ICHO/NACHR horses if you don't already have a sample on file with us. With so much new genetic information coming to light, it is so much easier to do tests when you have DNA saved in a hair sample. Thank you.
